Why We Exist

Our Mission

Cornerstone exists to glorify God by making disciples who are devoted to Jesus Christ, his Great Commandments, and his Great Commission.

Our vision is a congregation that is Christ-centered, love-oriented, and missions-motivated.

We strive to create a nurturing environment where individuals and families can thrive in their relationship with Jesus. Through worship, discipleship, and fellowship, we aim to make a lasting gospel impact in our local community.

Our Beliefs

Cornerstone's beliefs are rooted in Scripture and expressed through both historic Christian creeds and Baptist confessions.

Historic (Creedal): We stand with the church through the ages and around the world in holding to “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). For that reason, we regularly recite historic creeds like the Nicene Creed (AD 381).

Baptistic (Confessional): As a Send Network church plant in joyful cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention, our official confession of faith is the SBC's oldest statement, The Abstract of Principles.

We also affirm the SBC's current statement of faith, The Baptist Faith and Message.

Together, these documents faithfully summarize biblical doctrine, and Cornerstone's elders and members gladly hold them without reservation.

Meet Our Pastors

Cornerstone is led by a plurality of biblically-qualified elders who share the work of preaching, teaching, shepherding, and serving our church family.

Eric V. Mitchell

Lead Pastor

Pastor Eric Mitchell came to saving faith in Jesus Christ during college and soon sensed a call to pastoral ministry—particularly to preach God’s Word and shepherd God’s people.

He graduated from the University of Florida in 2008 and later pursued training to serve the local church with clarity, conviction, and care. Pastor Eric also served on staff at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Cornerstone’s sending church.

Eric was ordained to the gospel ministry in 2019. He earned a Master of Divinity in 2020 and a Master of Theology in 2025, both from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

Eric and his wife, Crystal, have been married since 2012 and have two children, Xavier and Abigail.

Stewart Kirksey

Associate Pastor

Stewart is a Pensacola native. Born and raised in church. Like many who are raised in the church, Stewart strayed from the Lord for many years, but by God's grace Stewart was saved by Christ in 2012. Stewart served on staff for several years at Klondike Church of Pensacola. He has a heart for discipleship, the exposition of the Scriptures, and to see people changed by the gospel of Christ.

Later in 2012, Stewart met his wife Kristy. They have one son and three daughters.
